What controls should I use?
This is detailed on the IFU for each product. Every batch of antiglobulin tests should include a suitable positive (sensitivity) control, eg R1r cells sensitised with a weak anti-Rh(D). A method to prepare red blood cells sensitised with complement is published in the Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Services in the United Kingdom.
What tests can I use these products for?
The products can be used for both Direct Antiglobulin Tests (DAT) and Indirect Antiglobulin Tests (IAT), sometimes referred to as the Coombs test. The products can be used in both NIS and LIS tests.
Why is the AHG product green in colour?
The AHG reagent is a green colour in accordance with guidelines and as a method to confirm the addition of the reagent to the test.
Does the product detect C3b or C3d?
Products Z350 and Z360 contain an antibody derived from cell line 3G8 which is specific to the C3d component of complement. These products will bind to cell bound complement components C3b and C3d.
